Description
CARIBBEAN TREASURE by KAREN WILES
The Caribbean colors are captured in a gorgeous coastal "channel whelk" found upon the shores of Topsail Island, in North Carolina! The spiral shape adds a mystery and beauty which can only be found in the treasures from the sea in all their colorful glory! Whelks are carnivores and scavengers in temperate waters, feeding on bivalves and on dead animals. They crawl around like a snail, using their muscular foot, leading with the narrow end of their shell. Their shells have a wide whorled posterior end, and a long, slender anterior end along which the animal's siphon is extended. They are a real beauty found in the local waters of the Carolinas! The perfect artwork in tones of aqua and coral to set the coastal tones found in the Caribbean.
