Description
WINDOWS of BARBADOS by KAREN WILES
As I climbed the historical Grenade signal station on the Southern Caribbean Island of Barbados, I could not anticipate the breathtaking view I found when opening the shutters of this amazing ancient tower.
The purpose of the building explains why. The station was originally constructed in 1819 and was one of a group of signal stations used for communication across the island, for example to warn of approaching ships or of slave rebellions. The towers were constructed in strategic locations around the island on high ground. What made these ideal lookout points for communication in the 1800's now make them the perfect vantage points for appreciating the natural beauty found in Barbados! One of the very first telephones ever made still hangs in the tower today for display.
Enjoy the beautiful views of Barbados everyday in Wiles' window view of the "Windows of Barbados!"
