Description
Karen Wiles' image "Mountain Waters" is a spectacular beauty of the Mingus Mill located on the Mingus Creek within the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. Named for the family that settles on it, Mingus Creek is a typical mountain stream whose water flows clear and fast over a rock and gravel bed. For most of it's length it is shaded by beautiful rhododendron and tall trees. Up- stream, some of the water is diverted to power the mill, after which it rejoins it's natural course. Mountain mills usually were built along free flowing streams, dams and their associated ponds being too difficult to build on this terrain.
