When winter arrives in the mountains of the Carolinas, there is nowhere I would rather be than "Romancing the Stone" so to speak at the Grove Park Inn! This beautiful remarkable and very historical hotel is a must when visiting Asheville, North Carolina. The architecture is truly a complete work of art and no matter how many times I visit, I am always amazed and never fail to discover something I have failed to admire before.
This grand, elegant stone hotel was built by Edwin Wiley Grove. He used only four hundred men, wagons, ropes, mules, and granite boulders, (some weighing in at 10,000 pounds) and the hotel was completed in less than one year in 1913.
At her ground breaking ceremony, she was proclaimed by the Secretary of State, "to be built for the ages..."
