BEAUTY OF THE LUNA MOTH by KAREN WILES

A luna moth gets it's name from it's moon like spots which are clearly seen in Wiles' "Beauty of the Luna."
Although rarely seen due to their very brief (1 week) adult lives, luna moths are considered common. As with all Saturniidae, the adults do not eat or have mouths. They emerge as adults solely to mate, and as such, only live approximately one week. They are more commonly seen at night. They love to lay their eggs upon the leaves of the persimmon tree. Their beautiful minty, lime green color makes the Luna Moth a uniquely and delicately dainty moth rarely seen in the daytime. Usually if they are spotted during the day, they have begun their process of delicately laying eggs only to die a short time afterward. They live solely to reproduce.
