The osprey is a magnificent and beautiful creature. It's instinct to care for it's mate and it's young is amazing. The male here, arrives to feed his mate her gourmet dinner of fine fresh fish. This osprey nest is actually built upon a design I made myself out of orchid baskets and a dog's crate.
Their dedication in nest building was relentless upon my neighbor's boat top every single day. So I built a platform on top of his boat, let them build the nest upon it and then it was carried over to my dock and attached it to a piling and it worked. They continued to build their nest. The osprey platform must always be an open bottom so that water can drain from the nest. They will not build upon a closed flat surface which fails to drain water. The dog crate door worked perfect!
