Description
EYELASH VIPER by KAREN WILES
A small arboreal pitviper of the tropical forest reaching a maximum length of just over three feet. The name "eyelash" denotes the horny projections of scales over the eyes, a trait seen in Central American populations. These snakes are almost always found above ground and can reach even the highest points of a forest canopy. Their tails are strongly prehensile, adapted to an almost totally arboreal existence. They feed on everything from frogs to lizards to mice. Even a beautiful hummingbird soaring too close to this colorful snake can be seized in midair.
