Description
PARK'S MILL, ABINGDON, VIRGINIA
Parks Mill is a breath of fresh air, the only negative is that you cannot capture all of her beauty in one image, there is the mill wheel and all her works, the beautiful creek, the grist house and of course the visitor's smiles. Parks Mill is an authentic, eighteenth-century, water-powered, grist mill which has continued operating on Fifteen Mile Creek in Washington County, Virginia for over 200 years. Built around 1780 by Oliver Alexander, the original mill was used to produce stone-ground corn meal, oat and wheat flours...
The Parks family purchased the original mill in 1806 and operated it until 1942, when they sold it to Jasper Brown. First Brown, and then his son, Dave, operated the mill commercially into the 1980's. Continuing the mill's long tradition, the current owners and millers offer freshly-milled corn meal, grits and other wholesome products still produced by the same time-honored, water-powered process used now for more than 220 years at Parks Mill.
